Communities of Faith United for Housing is an advocacy network of faith communities in the Fairfax/Falls Church community who are committed to increasing the supply of affordable housing within our community with a special focus on providing permanent housing opportunities for those at the lowest levels of income who are either homeless or dangerously close
to becoming homeless.
Parkwood is a member of CFUH and Senior Pastor Mike Bradley serves on the board of directors.

Parkwood, along with seventeen other churches in the Greater Fairfax Area, helps with rent, utilities, prescriptions, food, gas, and transportation for local residents who are facing short-term crises in their lives. It works in conjunction with the Fairfax County Department of Social Services.
FACET is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization providing comprehensive programs and services, including supportive housing, basic needs and emergency assistance, educational programs, eviction prevention services, medical outreach, and counseling to men, women, and children who are homeless or are otherwise precariously housed in Fairfax County.
The mission of FACETS is to build strong families and safe communities by improving the quality of life for impoverished men, women, and children through comprehensive programs addressing physical, spiritual, and emotional needs.
Hot Meals - For many years, Parkwood has partnered with FACETS and a number of other local churches to prepare and serve a hot meal to the homeless people in our community. A hot dinner is delivered every evening, 365 days a year, in Fairfax City along the Route 50 corridor. Our turn is each fifth Tuesday, so we serve four or five times a year. We have two teams: a prep team which prepares the dinner and another team which delivers it, using the church van.
Hypothermia Prevention - For the past two winters, Parkwood has participated in this ministry, the purpose of which is to prevent anyone dying of hypothermia in Fairfax County. On three winter evenings, we prepare and serve a hot meal at a sister church to about 30 homeless men and women. Additional help given is food to prepare lunches and time spent getting to know the guests.
School Supplies - Because every child or teen has a better chance of success in school if they are properly prepared, every August we collect and donate school supplies to homeless and low-income families.
Supportive housing Program - Again partnering with FACETS and a number of other local churches, we help this program by donating new or used furniture and household items. All items are used to move individuals or families from homelessness to a stable living environment in an apartment in Fairfax. Another way to assist this ministry is by helping people move into their new homes.

Disaster Relief is a mission effort of Virginia Baptists and of the SBC and CBF. Volunteers respond to all types of disasters, primarily natural disasters across the nation and globally. They provide feeding units to prepare hot meals for the victims, rescuers, and responders. The work is in partnership with the Red Cross, Salvation Army, and Baptist Conventions. We currently have ten trained members who are part of NorthStar Network. Our goal is to have a full 25 member team.
Members have gone on three trips to the Gulf Coast to help repair homes and a church after hurricane Katrina in 2006-2008. A team went to Jamaica in 2008 to repair a church damaged by hurricane Dean. In 2009, the Pounders worked at Camp CrossRoads.
The Center is located in Arlington, Virginia and provides opportunities for education and training for ministry in the evangelical community of the greater Washington, DC area. Parkwood has provided financial support for the Center.
Wycliffe's mission is to assist churches in making disciples of all nations through Bible translation. Parkwood supports a couple in their work with Wycliffe through the Dallas Network Services.
InterVarsity Christian Fellowship/USA is an evangelical campus mission serving more than 35,000 students and faculty on more than 560 college and university campuses nationwide. Parkwood provides some support for the ministry of a couple at the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill.
Young Life began in 1941 and is a non-profit organization committed to making an impact on kid's lives and preparing them for the future. Young Life leaders work within the arena of high school and middle school life. Parkwood has supported a couple in their ministry at Young Life.
Global Impact allows churches to directly connect with other Baptist churches around the world. The Baptist World Alliance is a fellowship of 211 Baptist unions and conventions ministering in over 200 countries. Funds are used to help defend religious freedom and human rights, respond to people in need, and share the Good News.
Mission of Love Community Orphanage is being built in Zambia. Parkwood supports the missionaries' work there. Last year, Parkwood had a book drive and delivered 19 boxes for their new library.

Please pray for our more than 5,300 missionaries as they live with the urgency

reason to have such urgency in our prayers and our gifts.
Met Real Needs
Thank you to everyone who helped with
the hypothermia prevention response program this winter. Last October, when
we chose our nights to serve, no one knew it would be during two history-making snow storms. But as they say on Broadway, "the show must go on," and it did. The need for a hot dinner and a place to sleep indoors was even greater during the storms, and Parkwood helped to provide that to
about 30 men and women for three nights.
We know there are so many people with so many needs throughout the world that sometimes it's hard to know what you can do to help. What difference could one person make, right? But God does want each one of
us to do our part to make a difference.
In Isaiah 58:10 we read, "and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and
satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday."
Thank you to each of you who put another person's need ahead of your own.
